Commission is the one business cost that grows precisely as you succeed. A quiet month is cheap. A full diary is expensive. Every client you win yourself, through your own reputation and your own effort, is charged at the same rate as one the platform found for you.

What commission costs across a year, at £50 a session

1 session a week: you bill £2,600, and lose £390 at 15% or £520 at 20%
3 sessions a week: you bill £7,800, and lose £1,170 at 15% or £1,560 at 20%
5 sessions a week: you bill £13,000, and lose £1,950 at 15% or £2,600 at 20%

Four ways a no commission claim gets walked back

Commission free on some booking types only. Check packages and group sessions specifically, which is where most of the money is.
No commission, but a monthly subscription. A fixed fee is not commission, and for a busy coach it is usually cheaper, but in a quiet month it is a cost you pay for nothing.
No commission, but card processing is deducted. Roughly 1.5% plus 20p in the UK. Small per session, real across a year.
No commission, for now. Introductory rates end. Ask what happens afterwards and whether existing coaches move onto the new rate.

Every figure above was read from the platform's own public pricing page in September 2026, and is quoted in the currency it is published in rather than converted. Published rates change, so treat this as the starting point for your own check. Where a column says none published, the platform does not state a figure on a public page.

Most of that commission column reads none published, which is worth saying plainly: no commission is not rare. What is rare is no commission and no subscription. Nearly everything else on the list takes nothing per booking and a fixed sum every month instead, so the quiet months are the expensive ones.

If you are starting out with no budget at all, what free actually gets you is the more useful comparison.

Questions

Does GoalMate take any commission at all?

No. Not on one to one sessions, not on group sessions, and not on multi week packages. The price you set is the amount that reaches your bank account.

Then how does the platform make money?

A service fee paid by the client at checkout, on top of your price: a flat 1 pound on sessions up to 25 pounds, and 4% above that. On a 50 pound session the client is charged 52.99 and you receive 50.

Is card processing taken out of my payout?

No. Stripe handles the payment and its processing is covered within the service fee paid by the client. Nothing is deducted from your side.

Is this an introductory rate?

No. There is no promotional period to expire and no tier you are moved onto later. There is also no contract, so if that ever changed you would not be locked in.

What is the catch?

Coverage. GoalMate is live across the North West and the Midlands. The software works anywhere, but the client discovery side only helps if you coach where the clients are.

Do you take a cut of packages and group sessions?

No, and this is the one worth checking elsewhere. A platform can be commission free on one to one and still take a percentage of a block or a group, which is where a good chunk of your income sits.

Will the client mind paying a fee?

It is shown in full before they confirm, so nothing appears on the statement they did not agree to. On a 50 pound session it is 2.99. In practice people are used to a booking fee and are more put off by being asked to pay a coach they have never met by bank transfer.

What if I just take cash instead?

Plenty do, and it works until somebody does not turn up. A session paid for at the point of booking removes the chasing and the awkward conversation, and gives you a record that a self assessment return can actually use.
